“I’m Gonna Wreck It!”
Imagine this being your opening line, every day, for the past thirty years of your life. Not only that, but everyday you get tossed off a building and even though you see the same people daily, they kinda don’t like you. Welcome to Ralph’s life. Ralph (John C. Reilly) is the main “bad” guy in the game Fix It Felix Jr.
Fix It Felix Jr has been a mainstay for 30 years in the arcade world that Disney’s latest movie creates. This is no arcade like you have imagined (it is Disney after all) and every game is connected through a sort of transportation system (aka the power surge protector)…and Ralph is no ordinary bad guy. He’s actually sick of being the bad guy and wants to be more. So he goes on a quest to win a medal, which leads him to the every dangerous and modern day video game world of Hero’s Duty before finding himself stuck in Sugar Rush where he meets Vanellope Von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman). Together they embark on a journey that not only teaches them lessons on who they are but also finding family within each other.
As a child of the 80′s, video games and I are long lost friends. So I was super excited to see some of my favorites featured throughout the film. What I ended up seeing was not only a nostalgic explosion of characters, but also a visual ride of it’s own. With five major worlds created, director Rich Moore pulled all stops and each world it’s own entity and you actually felt part of each game. However, beyond the visuals and nostalgia, was the story and the characters. I have to say, while I have loved John C. Reilly’s past films…his role as Ralph may be my favorite. Thanks to John C. Reilly’s heavy involvement, Ralph actually is Reilly and vice versa. Reilly gave Ralph his humanity, his voice and his persona. I cannot imagine anyone else voicing Ralph.
Most would never picture Sarah Silverman and the name “Disney” coming together, but not only is she the perfect Vanellope… she is Vanellope. She’s cute, scrappy, authentic, and just the type of character you want to show your daughters in a Disney movie and say…see, you should never change who you are.
Wreck It Ralph is a movie for the entire family, for fans of the old games to the next generation of video gamers alike. Your eyes will be excited by the many world and the 180 characters (more than triple any other Disney film) that have been intricately designed. But, what makes this movie great is the the humor and the heart. This is a must see.
Wreck It Ralph is rated PG and is out in theaters everywhere.
Though it falls for the conventions we hate to see in these types of movies, it still has plenty of heart and fun that it definitely makes the final-product all the more better. Good review Yolanda.

I took my daughter to see this and we absolutely loved it! Me being the huge gaming geek that I am and her loving pretty much every humorous animated movie she sees made it that much better for us! I can’t wait till it comes out on dvd!
What a cute movie! I feel like most movies are for girls…so this is a fun boy movie.
Ah, I remember all those 80′s video games, I can’t wait to see this movie.
