How Head & Shoulders Saved My Blue Colored Hair From Flakes

04/23/2018 by Yolanda Machado

*This post was developed in collaboration with Head & Shoulders, however all thoughts and opinions are my own.*

I have a confession- I am kinda in love with my hair. I know many women have a complicated relationship with their hair, and at times in my life that was true for me too. Until, a couple years ago I decided to make a huge jump- and colored my hair for the first time ever. And no, because I had to be uniquely me, I didn’t do your usual highlights or one color for my first dye job, nope. I went for bright and bold colors.

Over the past few years my hair has been purple, blue, pink, teal- or a mix in between, and I have loved every single one. But- it required a new hair routine, one that involved less in between washing, more dry shampoo which led to, dun dun DUNNN- dandruff.

I first noticed the flakes when I was on a video shoot and had on a black tee shirt. Can I tell you how embarrassed I felt that first time? I became so self-conscious over moving my head around, in fear that flakes would just fall out of my head on red carpets, at work events, and in videos in which I was the main host. I had to do something- but I also needed to find a solution that wouldn’t kill my color, shine and bounce, was budget friendly…oh, and that I didn’t have to run around all over Los Angeles looking for too! I thought I was asking for a unicorn cause it felt impossible.

One evening, a little over a month ago, I was doing a late grocery run because well, I don’t really know any working mom who has time to grocery shop anytime but the evening! Haha! But anyway, there I was, at my local Food 4 Less, when I made a turn into the hair care aisle. I honestly just wanted to browse to see what they had for my husband, but instead, I was drawn to Head & Shoulders Smooth & Silky. Why? Two reasons: I saw “COLOR SAFE” on the label and there was a separate shampoo and conditioner. In order to get the best, dandruff free hair, I knew I had to find something with a separate conditioner so I could keep my blue/teal locks looking shiny and healthy as long as possible. The price was perfect for our budget, so I grabbed a set and gave it a try.

I found a winner…

That night in the beauty aisle at Food 4 Less changed my world forever. Head & Shoulders Shampoo and Conditioner are amazing when used together, and my scalp is nourished, and my hair, well, it’s gorgeous, see for yourself:

Dandruff doesn’t have to keep you from living your best hair life…just head to your local Food 4 Less and pick up Head & Shoulders Smooth & Silky Shampoo and Conditioner. My bright colored hair and I will meet you there!
