A Disney Villain must be frightening, with a touch of humor, in order to both make audiences fear and cheer them. One of the most memorable, and in my opinion, iconic villains to date is Scar of “The Lion King”. Not only is Scar voiced by one of the most legendary actors of our time (Jeremy Irons!!!), but everything about how he looks, moves, acts… it’s just genius. It should come as no surprise that Scar was animated by the artist, Andreas Deja, who also animated Jafar and Gaston. That is some legit villainy there!

To celebrate the work of Andreas Deja, The Walt Disney Family Museum is showcasing some of his work in an exhibit called “Deja View: The Art of Andreas Deja.”

Deja began working at Walt Disney Animation Studios in 1980, where he was accepted into the training program. His first film with the studio was “The Black Cauldron” which, fun fact, he worked on while sharing a cubicle with Tim Burton. While his best known works are those of the three iconic villains mentioned prior, he also worked on “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”, “The Little Mermaid”, “Hercules”, “Lilo and Stitch”, and “Enchanted”.

Getting to view his gorgeous and fascinating works of art was not only fun, but inspiring and educational as well. I consider myself a huge Disney nut, so getting to see some more of the work of Deja was wonderful. Now, until October 9th, you can head to the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco and get a chance to view Deja’s works for yourself.

Plus, you can take a tour of the Walt Disney Family Museum itself, which is always a great time. There is so much amazing history behind the man that created this unique world that families have enjoyed for over sixty years, and the museum offers a beautiful glimpse into a story that has become a piece of the American fabric that we all know and love.

The Walt Disney Family Museum is open everyday, except Tuesdays, from 10am-6pm.

The Lion King is now available on digital and Disney Movies Anywhere and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on August 29!
